South Jersey summers are made for the backyard, and mosquitoes and ticks know it. Between the Delaware River and Delaware Bay marshes, farm-field hedgerows, wooded lots, and the buckets, gutters, and planters in every yard, Salem, Gloucester, and Cumberland counties give both pests what they need. Zero Pests treats the yard you actually use so you can get back out in it.
Signs You Need Mosquito & Tick Control
- You get bitten in the middle of the afternoon, not just at dusk. That’s typical of the Asian tiger mosquito, a daytime biter found in every New Jersey county.
- You’re finding ticks on your family, your dog, or yourself after time in the yard, especially near woods, tall grass, or brush.
- Your property has standing water: clogged gutters, tarps, tires, plant saucers, birdbaths, or corrugated downspout extensions.
- Your yard borders woods, hedgerows, fields, or marsh, where ticks wait on low vegetation.
Mosquito & Tick Season in South Jersey
In New Jersey, Asian tiger mosquitoes are generally active from about May through October, with populations building to a peak in July and August. They breed in containers, and Rutgers researchers note they can complete development in as little as a quarter-inch of water, which is why backyard sources matter so much. Your county mosquito control agency handles marshes and public land; the containers and shady spots on your property are where a yard treatment helps.
Ticks follow their own calendar. Rutgers reports that blacklegged (deer) tick nymphs, the tiny stage that’s hardest to spot, peak from May through July, while adults are most active in fall and spring and can be out on winter days above freezing. Lone star ticks, the most abundant tick in much of southern New Jersey, are active from March through October. In other words, tick season in South Jersey is close to year-round.
How Ed Handles Mosquitoes & Ticks
Ed walks the property first. For mosquitoes he looks for breeding sites, dumps or flags standing water, and treats the shaded resting areas where adults hide during the day: shrubs, hedges, the underside of decks, and dense plantings. For ticks he focuses on the transition zones, such as wood lines, stone walls, tall grass at the edge of the lawn, and leaf litter. Treatments use eco-friendly products and careful application, targeted to where these pests live rather than blanketing the whole lot.
He’ll also give you a short list of things that make a difference between visits: emptying containers weekly, keeping gutters clear, mowing edges, and moving play sets and seating away from the woods.
What to Expect
Call, and you’ll reach Ed. He’ll ask about your yard and what you’re seeing, schedule a visit, inspect, and explain his plan and pricing before treating. Because mosquitoes and ticks keep coming back from surrounding land, he’ll talk with you honestly about how often treatment makes sense for your property during the season.

Frequently Asked Questions
When should I start mosquito and tick treatment?
Spring is ideal for ticks, since adults and nymphs become active early. For mosquitoes, starting in late spring helps get ahead of the midsummer peak. Call and Ed will recommend timing for your yard.
Will one treatment last all summer?
No single treatment lasts the whole season, because mosquitoes and ticks move in from surrounding properties and natural areas. Ed will tell you what schedule makes sense for your yard.
Do you treat for mosquitoes before a party?
Yes. Our outdoor event service is done 1–3 days before the event. See our event pest spraying page for details.
What can I do between visits?
Dump standing water weekly, clean gutters, check downspout extensions, keep grass short at the woods’ edge, and do tick checks after time outdoors.
